Eyebrows provide the framework for the eyes
17 de October de 2019
Are you looking tired, sad or older? Eyebrow droop, or ptosis, may be the cause of the problem, although many patients who seek consultation about the problem are unaware that their eyebrows are actually lower than normal. “They may even consider blepharoplasty – a more common aesthetic surgery procedure designed to correct “bags” and excess skin in the eyelids – that can even worsen existing eyebrow ptosis”, the doctor explains. Luz María Vásquez, ophthalmologist at the IMO Department of Aesthetics and Rejuvenation. For this reason, she adds, “proper examination and evaluation is crucial in these cases”.
Possible solutions increasingly include non-surgical treatments such as Ultherapy, which lifts the eyebrows by stimulating collagen production, leading to a lifting effect through the use of ultrasound. “It is very satisfactory as it can be carried out in the consultation room at any time of year and normal life can immediately be resumed. Its effects will be noticed progressively, above all from the second or third month after the session, a may last for over a year if the skin is properly cared for”.
Before and after Ultherapy non-surgical lifting designed to achieve natural, effective raising of the eyebrows.
According to Dr Vásquez, “other eyebrow lifting options that do not require surgery include injections of botulinum toxin and filler substances such as hyaluronic acid”, which are also practically painless and offer speedy recovery.
Raise your eyebrows without visible incisions
On the other hand, when eyebrow droop is more evident, it may require surgery, “which can raise the eyebrow up to 1 cm, as compared to the 2 mm that non-surgical treatments usually allow”. This intervention may be carried out using a variety of techniques, such as direct lifting, endoscopic lifting (which uses invisible micro-incisions that are covered by the scalp), or transblepharoplasty (also with invisible micro-incisions that are concealed in the fold of the eyelid).
As we can see, a number of solutions are available for eyebrow ptosis, which usually appears at 40 to 45 years of age due to loss of skin tone and firmness, although it can also be present from birth or be due to other causes, such as facial paralysis. In addition, “it is important to bear in mind that it is not always just an aesthetic problem, in that if it is accompanied by drooping of the eyelid it can affect the upper part of the visual field in some patients”.
