What does it involve?
This involves using one eye for distance vision and one for near vision.
When is it carried out?
It is an option available to patients with low myopia and presbyopia who want to avoid having to wear glasses. It is either performed by phacoemulsification, the technique used in cataract surgery, or by LASIK eye surgery, which is also used for the treatment of refractive errors.
Prior examination
The ophthalmologist uses examination equipment to determine the type of cataract, size, location, surgical indication and prognosis. The tests performed on patients consist of visual acuity and eye pressure tests, an examination of the fundus and biometrics.
Before the surgery
The patient can lead a normal life after surgery, but initially vision will not be perfect. For the first few days, patients should avoid physical exercise involving sudden or abrupt movements. It is very important for patients not to rub their eyes.
Surgery
The eye that has no refractive error is left for distance vision, while the myopic eye is used for near vision.
Risks
Patients who have a positive disposition and understand the situation generally adapt very well, since optical correction is only required in certain circumstances, such as driving at night and reading small writing. In the event of intolerance, the treatment can generally be reversed.

FAQs
Nowadays, there are several techniques. The most popular for small refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, is LASIK. In special cases there are other options available: phakic lenses, crystalline extraction, intracorneal lenses or intrastromal rings.
